Shiv Sena Split: Rahul Narwekar Read Out Ruling from ‘Script Given by His Bosses in Delhi’: Saamana
The editorial criticised Narwekar’s stand in the disqualification row, and said the Speaker had the ‘golden opportunity to create history’ but instead he chose to ‘bring major embarrassment to democracy’

Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ criticised Maharashtra Assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar’s decision to recognise the Eknath Shinde faction as the ‘real’ Shiv Sena in the disqualification petition row, and said he was given a “script by his bosses in New Delhi”.

Narwekar had pronounced judgment against 34 petitions filed by two rival Shiv Sena factions, seeking disqualification of 54 MLAs after the party’s split in 2022.

“Yesterday, the Speaker of the state assembly gave a ruling in favour of ‘Chors’ (thieves). This is nothing but a murder of law, which he (Narwekar) has done with help of his bosses in Delhi. He said on the morning of January 10 that it would be a landmark judgment but this has brought major embarrassment to the democracy. He lost a golden opportunity to create history,” the Samana editorial read.

The editorial further said, “Everyone is aware that those MLAs first went to Surat, then Guwahati, Goa and returned to Mumbai. They didn’t follow the ‘Whip’ of the party in the state assembly. Shinde used to tell all these rebels MLAs that “don’t worry there is ‘Maha Satta’ (super power) behind us, but Rahul Narwekar who is holding the constitutional post also supported them and further said the BJP has no connection in this. People of Maharashtra won’t spare those who had given recognition to these rebels.”

Editorial also claims that the Shiv Sena UBT was aware that the Speaker would give a ruling in favour of traitors who rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena. “The long-pending ruling, which the speaker read on January 10 was a written script given to him by his Delhi bosses. He also gave wrong rulings such as the Election Commission of India. On what basis does the Speaker of the state assembly have the right to pronounce the order on who the real Shiv Sena is? It was shocking that a person who had changed three parties in the last five years gave this verdict. He has made a mockery of the democracy”.

The Sena mouthpiece also criticised the BJP for being “autocratic”. It said Narwekar gave the ruling in “favour of traitors on the basis of numbers, which they got in the House”.

When Uddhav Thackeray became the Chief Minister in 2019 by joining hands with traditional rivals Congress and Nationalist Congress Party forming the Maha Vikas Agadhi government, Shiv Sena MLAs felt that the ideological position of the party became weak by ditching the BJP.

Shinde along with 34 MLAs rebelled against Uddhav Thackeray, who passed a resolution to remove Shinde as the leader of the party in the Maharashtra House and appoint Ajay Choudhari in his place. Sunil Prabhu was appointed the party whip. Shinde group also passed a resolution affirming his leadership and appointing Bharatshet Gogawale as chief whip.

Unable to convince the Sena rebels, Thackeray resigned and Shinde took oath as the chief minister.
