Amethi: In a huge embarrassment for Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, the members of Bhartiya Kisan Union showed him black flags during his visit to Amethi on Wednesday.

It is Rahul's first visit to his Lok Sabha constituency after being promoted as the party's election campaign chief.

Rahul Gandhi is on a two-day visit to Amethi with sister Priyanka Gandhi.

His trip comes shortly after AAP leader Kumar Vishwas, who was campaigning in Amethi for his party, had targetted him over development issues in the area. Vishwas had also challenged Rahul in his own constituency.

"A lot of claims have been made on development of Amethi but the reality is that there is no development here... Coming here and returning after waving at people will not serve the purpose of development," he had said.

Rahul is in Amethi to meet party workers and review the work of central schemes.

He attacked Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for neglecting road and electricity connectivity in the state. "We have been lagging on electricity front and road connectivity", he said.

He added that the Congress believes in working and not talking.

"Rahul will be on a two-day visit starting January 22 during which he will meet party workers and make surprise inspection of some villages to review progress of central schemes," Rahul's representative Chandrakant Dubey had said on Monday.
