Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the firing incident in Pune that claimed the life of former Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Vanraj Andekar. The arrested persons are currently being interrogated by the police.
The incident took place on Sunday night at around 8:30 pm near Doke Talim in Pune’s Nana Peth area where Andekar was residing. Police officials said that Andekar was fired five rounds following which he was taken to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. Andekar’s body has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for postmortem.
Police suspect that the murder was driven by a family dispute and financial issues. They believe that Andekar was shot by a close relative due to prior enmity. The assailant, who was on a bike, fired five rounds at him and later attacked him with sharp weapons.
It has been reported that the power supply in the Doke Talim area was interrupted just before the attack. This firing, occurring on the eve of Ganeshotsav, has created an atmosphere of fear in the Nana Peth area. The police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the attack.
“Five rounds were fired at Vanraj Andekar. He was also attacked with long-blade sickles. He was brought dead to the KEM Hospital. As per the primary information, Andekar suffered multiple sharp weapon injuries. Further details will be given in due course,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma.
Earlier in January, gangster Sharad Mohol was shot and killed allegedly by some members of his gang in Pune’s Kothrud area.
