Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray, in an apparent dig at Shiv Sena which has forged an alliance with RPI apart from BJP, on Sunday said he was a "political bachelor" and did not need any "alliance".
"Politically I am a bachelor since nobody wants to have an alliance with me unlike some others who need two partners. There is no point in registering my name anywhere," he said on the sidelines of the launch of a matrimonial site at a suburban hotel on Sunday evening.
Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, who was also invited for the function quipped, "after coming here, I was told about the matrimony site launch. Anyway, the site is of no use to me or Raj. May be our children can benefit from it".
Both Deshmukh and Raj were unaware of each other's presence before they bumped into each other at the launch of "Saathiya" which is the brainchild of MNS spokesman Shirish Parkar and Sangeet Date, son of veteran singer Arun Date.
Deshmukh said he had come for the function to wish the singer on his 50th wedding anniversary which fell on Saturday. The MNS chief said he was not aware that Deshmukh would be attending the function.
"I asked Sangeet Date why a good Marathi name was not found for the website. He told me that the site was global. I want to tell him that they should focus on getting Marathi girls and boys married in good families first," Raj said.
Shiv Sena has roped in RPI in its alliance with BJP in view of the upcoming civic body polls in the state.
