New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party is continuing to defend its leader and Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti. AAP spokesperson Ashutosh has alleged that politics is being played out against Bharti.
He said the party won't take any action immediately. "If he is found guilty, then the party will take necessary actions," Ashutosh said.
This comes as the National Commission for Women demanded Bharti's resignation after Ugandan woman complained of misbehaviour by the minister and his supporters. Mamta said, "Somnath Bharti should resign. Arvind Kejriwal should demand his resignation."
NCW Chairperson Mamta Sharma on Wednesday said the SHO cannot summon Somnath Bharti as he is being threatened by Aam Aadmi Party supporters. She added, "Delhi Commission for Women has taken up the case now. He has been summoned and I'm not aware if he went or not. State Commission will submit its report and we will take the matter up."
Even after the Ugandan woman identified Bharti and accused him of misbehaviour with the girls, the Kejriwal government is unlikely to take any immediate action. Sources said, "AAP may not to take any immediate action against Somnath Bharti as they think the case is prejudiced. The party will present its defense to the court. Bharti has given his side of the story to the party."
The Ugandan woman has also identified Bharti as the one leading the team which conducted a midnight raid in Khirki extension and misbehaved with the girls. While giving her statement to the Saket Magistrate Court on Tuesday, the woman said that after watching footage on TV and print media she has identified Bharti.
Two women recorded their statement in the Saket magistrate court. One of them was a Ugandan, the nationality of the second lady was not known.
The woman said, "We were attacked on Wednesday night by Indians who were led by Somnath Bharti. They are claiming we are blacks and we should leave their country. We were harassed, beaten. They had long sticks and they said we should leave or else they will kill us. I identified him because he came in the night and next day I saw him on television he was wearing what I saw last night. Police came in time and saved us from the mob."
The Delhi Commission for Women will send another summon to Bharti through SHO over complaint of misbehaviour with Ugandan women. The DCW had earlier summoned the minister but he denied reports saying he had no knowledge of any summon.
The police had already filed an FIR against unknown persons for molestation and wrongful restraint after the Ugandan women complained. The women had alleged that people used abusive language against them and detained them on the night of the raid. They alleged they were mistreated.
Earlier, a CCTV footage from inside the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) showed that Bharti was talking to doctors at 5 am when the medical tests were being carried out on Ugandan women. Sources had confirmed that Bharti reached AIIMS after the fracas at Khirki extension on Thursday and had asked to 'see' for himself what was going on at the hospital.
Last week, Bharti along with his supporters conducted a midnight raid at Khirki extension and asked the police to arrest the Ugandan women whom he accused of being involved in prostitution and drug trafficking. The police defied the orders of the Law Minister and he in turn demanded their suspension.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with his ministers had raised the matter with Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and demanded the suspension of the policemen. The Lieutenant Governor had ordered a judicial probe in the incident.
The demand to suspend the policemen took an extreme turn as the Kejriwal government along with its supporters protested on the streets and brought the national capital to a standstill.
