In India, the UPSC examination is a gateway to prestigious civil service positions and many aspirants face significant challenges in achieving this goal. The story of IAS officer Deepak Meena exemplifies the rigorous journey of those who aspire to serve the nation through this esteemed career path.
Recently, IAS officer Deepak Meena came under scrutiny from Uttar Pradesh Minister Dharmpal Singh Saini. During a meeting at Vikas Bhawan in Meerut, the Minister expressed his dissatisfaction over the absence of several departmental officers. He reprimanded Meena for not ensuring the presence of all relevant officials, emphasising the need for strict adherence to meeting protocols to maintain the decorum and seriousness required for effective governance.
Deepak Meena was born on July 15, 1986, in Rajasthan. He pursued a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and initially joined Tata Steel. Despite a promising career in the private sector, Meena decided to prepare for the UPSC examination. His dedication paid off when he successfully cleared the exam in 2011 and underwent IAS training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie from August 29, 2011, to May 27, 2012.
Upon completing his training, Meena was assigned to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre. His early postings included Aligarh, where he gained field experience until August 13, 2013. He then served as Joint Magistrate in Azamgarh, Saharanpur and Aligarh. On August 14, 2014, he was appointed Chief Development Officer (CDO) of Bulandshahr and held similar positions in Aligarh, Agra, Mainpuri and Saharanpur.
On April 25, 2017, Meena was appointed District Magistrate of Shravasti, serving until June 8, 2019, before being transferred to Siddharth Nagar. Since April 14, 2022, he has been serving as the District Magistrate of Meerut. Despite facing criticism, Meena’s career reflects a significant commitment to public service across various high-profile administrative roles in Uttar Pradesh. His journey illustrates the challenges and responsibilities inherent in IAS positions and the dedication required to navigate them effectively.
