Dehradun: Chief Minister Harish Rawat has asked the youth wing of the Congress to take unique welfare measures initiated by the state government to the masses.

"'Mera Per Mera Dhan' is a unique scheme launched by the state government under which people are to get a bonus for planting fruit and fodder bearing trees. Financial incentives are also being given to people who contribute to connecting agriculture with the economy of the hills.

"These schemes need to be taken to every village so that people come forward to avail of them," Rawat told members of the executive committee of Pradesh Youth Congress who called on him on Sunday.

Speaking of the state government's 'Mere Buzurg-Mere Teerth' scheme under which elderly people of the state aged 65 years and above are offered a free chardham yatra annually, the chief minister said awareness about such schemes needs to be created among the people and the party's youth power can play a crucial role in this exercise.

"Groups of young men and women can be formed at the village-level to popularise the state government's schemes They (Youth Cong workers) can coordinate their efforts with the District Magistrates so that more and more elderly people from the state come forward to reap their benefits," he said.
