Mumbai: Gurudas Kamat, who had quit the Congress recently, withdrew his resignation on Thursday.
With withdrawal of resignation, Kamat's re-entry in to the party is considered as crucial ahead of the 2017 civic elections in Mumbai, party sources said.
He said, "I withdrew my resignation after meeting with party chairperson Sonia Gandhi. I will continue to serve the party under the leadership of our party president and Rahul Gandhi."
Earlier, Senior Congress leaders AK Antony and Ahmed Patel held separate meetings with him last week amid signals that a way out could be found soon for his comeback to the party.
He was reportedly unhappy with the politics being played by Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam and AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash, who is in charge of party affairs in Maharashtra.
On June 6, 2016, Kamat had announced his decision to quit active politics.
Kamat was AICC general secretary in charge of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
