Delhi gangrape: Stop such crimes, PM tells Shinde
The Prime Minister termed the gangrape of a girl in a moving bus in the national capital as a heinous crime and very upsetting.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday asked Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde to ensure that the culprits of the gangrape of a girl in a moving bus in the national capital are brought to book. Terming the incident as a heinous crime and very upsetting, Singh also asked the Home Minister to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.

This came a day after UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi wrote to the Home Minister, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Mamata Sharma, and told them that all possible measures should be taken so that such incidents do not occur.

The Congress president on Tuesday night also visited Safdarjung Hospital to inquire about the condition of the 23-year-old gangrape victim. She was at the hospital for about 15-20 minutes and also met the parents of the victim. She was told by the doctors that the girl was in a critical state.

According to doctors, the condition of the paramedical student, who was gangraped and brutally assaulted by a group of men in a moving bus on Sunday, had deteriorated on Tuesday evening after which she was put on "full-time ventilator support".
