In fresh trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the wife of Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti has accused him of domestic violence. Following a complaint by Bharti’s wife, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has served a notice to the former Delhi law minister.
Somnath Bharti has been asked by the DCW to reply to the notice by June 26.
Bharti’s wife Lipika Mitra has alleged that the AAP leader has been indulging in domestic violence since 2011, a year after their marriage in 2010. Mitra also claimed that she had filed a case of domestic violence against Bharti at a police station in Dwarka in 2011.
According to Bharti’s wife, she initially felt that the violence would stop with time, but it failed to stop and hence, she now wants separation from the AAP leader.
Meanwhile, DCW chief Barkha Singh said that Bharti had been indulging in domestic violence since his marriage with Lipika Mitra, adding that he had also been harassing his two kids.
The DCW chief further said that Bharti has even threatened to kill his wife.
