Cong MLA Sits on Dharna at Brother Digvijaya Singh's House Demanding District Status for Chachoda

Bhopal: Accompanied by about 200 supporters, Congress MLA Laxman Singh sat on a dharna at the residence of his elder brother Digvijaya Singh in Bhopal on Tuesday and demanded that the Chachoda tehsil be given the status of a district. The younger Singh brother represents Chachoda in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly.

Digvijaya Singh, who returned to his residence when was the protest was underway, did not meet his younger brother and his supporters and left for a community function at Meena.

In a function later in the day, he said that the demand of the MLA Laxman Singh, who is known for his love-hate relationship with his brother and speaking out against his own government, couldn’t be met.

The MLA claimed that Chief Minister Kamal Nath in July had announced to elevate Chachoda into a district. Laxman Singh demanded Digvijaya visiting Chachoda with CM and specify a date when the announcement would materialise. “When Niwari could be formed into a district with two tehsils, why can’t Chachoda get the same status even with three tehsils,” Laxman Singh said.

Chachoda is part of Guna district, a Jyotiraditya Scindia stronghold.
