BJP meets EC over Cong's Muslim quota promise
Salman Khurshid promised to increase Muslim sub-quota to 9 per cent, if the Congress is voted to power in UP.

New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday met the Election Commission to register its protest against the Congress's pledge of 9 per cent sub-quota for backward Muslim, saying it's a violation of the code of conduct.

The BJP leaders met the Election Commission to complain about Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's promise to increase Muslim sub-quota from 4.5 per cent to 9 per cent, if the Congress is voted to power in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking about the issue, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, "BJP leaders met EC today. We have raised the issue about the way the Congress is trying to divide UP on the base of religion and caste to hide corruption. Whatever Salman Khurshid has said on 9 per cent Muslim sub quota is unconstitutional. This is a violation of moral code of conduct."

Naqvi further said, "This way of making promises in election rally is unconstitutional. This is an attempt to divide the society on lines of religion and caste."

"The EC has given assurance that they will take appropriate steps in complains against the Congress party talking of quota for minorities."
