Bhopal: Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 118 seats and Congress in 71 in initial trends in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections.
The BJP appeared all set to retain power in Madhya Pradesh, leading in 124 seats out of the 209 for which trends were available in the 230-member Assembly.
The Congress was leading in 62 seats. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was ahead in Budhni while Uma Bharti's Bharatiya Janshakti Party was trailing in all the 216 seats it contested. Bharti herself is trailing in Tikamgarh.
The Congress stalwarts who are trailing are leader of opposition Jamuna Devi (Kukshi), Subhash Yadav (Kahrawat), Hazari Lal Raghuvanshi (Seonimalwa).
BJP ministers Gauru Shankar Shejwar (Sanshi)and Kailash Chawla (Manasa) were also behind in the vote count.
The state had recorded a 60 per cent turnout of voters on November 27, just a day after the Mumbai terror attacks.

Repolling in 31 booths spread over 11 districts was held on November 30.
