Kolkata: The BJP on Wednesday held a brief road blockade programme in West Bengal against the state government's 'indifference' to farmers' suicide and denial of support price to farmers.
Police said that BJP workers put up road blockades at three points in the metropolis Hazra road, Shyambazar and CR Avenue for 10 minutes, but it caused no traffic dislocation.
None was arrested, police said. State BJP president Rahul Sinha said that it was unfortunate that the Mamata Banerjee government was paying no heed to farmers' demands, forcing them to end their lives.
Sinha said that a BJP delegation would call on Governor MK Narayanan on Thursday to apprise him of the distress of farmers in the state.
Referring to the killing of two CPI(M) leaders in Burdwan town during the day, Sinha said "the same CPI(M) techniques in which the party enacted the Sain family massacre in Burdwan in 1970, has been repeated".
