AAP government pressured me to convert land leased to industries to freeholds: Shakuntala Gamlin to L-G
Gamlin said that she told AAP Minister Satyendra Jain that as land is not under Delhi government, she won't be able to bring a Cabinet note.

New Delhi: In another round of stand-off between the Delhi's Aam Aadmi Party government and the Centre, Delhi Industries Department Principal Secretary Shakuntala Gamlin has alleged that she was pressured by Industries Minister Satyendra Jain to introduce a Cabinet note to convert a leasehold industrial land to freehold.

In a letter to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Shakuntala wrote, "The government of Delhi is no way involved in the administration of these lands except through the Lt Governor who acts on the advice of the DDA as its Chairman. Despite these facts having been brought to the Minister, he kept continuously pressing for the Cabinet Note on the subject and expressed his annoyance on several occasions in this regard."

Gamlin alleged that AAP's move would benefit industrialists and added that she told Jain that as land is not under Delhi government, she won't be able to bring a Cabinet note.

The Bharatiya Janata Party hit out at the Arvind Kejriwal government over the move. BJP leader Anil Baluni said, "AAP's hypocrisy is exposed, this is why they wanted to appoint officers. Kejriwal was worried that scams like this one will be exposed."

Both Delhi government and Lt Governor were locked in a bitter war of words with each claiming authority to appoint bureaucrats. The High Court in a recent order clarified that the Lt Governor is the constitutional authority in the national capital.

The war intensified between the Delhi government and Lt Governor over the appointment of Shakuntala Gamlin as acting Delhi Chief Secretary.
