2G: No bail to Kanimozhi angers Karunanidhi
Karunanidhi accused the court that denied bail to Kanimozhi of hesitating to ensure and uphold basic legal rights.

Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi on Thursday accused the court that denied bail to his daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi of hesitating to ensure and uphold basic legal rights.

He further said that the stand taken by the court made one fear where Indian democracy was headed to.

"If courts, which are a pillar of Indian democracy, hesitate to ensure and uphold basic legal rights, one can not but fear where Indian democracy was headed to and what is in store for the future. But let's hope for the good," said Karunanidhi.

Alleging that justice was being denied in this case, he questioned if there were unfounded assumptions behind the ruling.

"I also fear if justice is being denied, especially in the light of so many 'legal experts' opinions. I wonder if there are unfounded assumptions behind the ruling," he said.
