It’s not unusual for a batter to get to a milestone with a four or a six but certainly a rare sight if it’s achieved with, wait for it, a seven.
Hoping for a Test return, Australian Matt Renshaw pulled off something similar thanks to some help from Pakistan fielders during a four-day warm-up fixture while representing Prime Minister’s XI.
On Day 3, having reached 47 off 135, Renshaw drove the fifth delivery of the 78th over, bowled by spinner Abrar Ahmed, to deep extra cover and sent Mir Hamza on a long chase.
Hamza was able to prevent the boundary and threw the ball to the non-striker’s end where Pakistan’s Babar Azam collected the ball. By then though Renshaw, had taken three runs.

However, Babar in turn threw the ball towards his wicketkeeper who was unable to collect the ball and it evaded the fielder behind him too resulting in four overthrows.
Renshaw thus got to his milestone with a seven.
The 27-year-old top-order batter is hoping to make a return to the Australian Test team having managed just 14 Tests in his seven years so far.
Renshaw among the leading contenders to replace David Warner as opener in the Test side after he retires following the third Test against Pakistan in January next year.
Besides Renshaw, Marcus Harris and Cameron Bancroft are also in the race.
There has been a suggestion from Australia coach Andrew McDonald that Marnus Labuschagne could be promoted up the batting order from no. 3.
“Whatever the Australian selectors think is best is what will happen and me saying anything is not going to change anyone’s opinions. Whoever deserves the job will get the job,” Renshaw told AAP.
