'Don't Be Selective Alpha': Kunal Khemu's 'Animal' Opinion on Toxic Men Resurfaces on Reddit
Kunal Khemu's candid views on 'alpha male theory' resurfaces on Reddit, internet couldn't relate to it anymore.

Ever since Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal’ hit the silver screens, there’s been non-stop chatter about Ranbir Kapoor’s alpha male character. People have been sharing their thoughts on the portrayal of male dominance, with opinions ranging from criticism to support. Recently, an old interview resurfaced on Reddit, where Kunal Khemu shared his perspective on the topic, and it’s gaining traction.

During an appearance on Raj Shamani’s podcast, the host mentioned hearing from his female friends that some women actually admire alpha male characters like Ranvijay from ‘Animal’. Kunal’s response was direct and to the point, “Then ask them to try it out. Two-three days and they will be heading to a police station because that alpha man slapped them. Then they’ll understand.”

He went on to explain how some men conveniently adopt the selective alpha theory to avoid putting in effort, likening it to asking a non-vegetarian to slaughter the animal themselves before eating it. Kunal emphasised the importance of hard work in solving issues, rather than resorting to shortcuts and labelling oneself as a selective alpha male. “Be an alpha in true sense or don’t be one,” he remarked.

Reddit erupted with opinions soon after, with many applauding Kunal for his candid stance. “Kunal seems like a guy you could easily be friends with. He is very clear in all his interviews plus seems to have a very enjoyable personality,” said one. Another joined, “Love the line ‘phele do teen din thapad, baad mein police ayegi’. Toxic relationships are presented as hot and sweet in movies and series, but in real life they give life long trauma.”

Some users even raised concerns about the host’s circle, questioning the mindset of anyone who idealises a Ranvijay-like figure. “I’m really concerned for host’s female friends who actually want their man to be like Ranvijay, ” one wrote. Another user didn’t mince words, suggesting, “Pretty sure all of Shamani’s friends, irrespective of gender, have problematic views. Guy gives off Incel energy like a homing pigeon.”

For those unfamiliar, the notion of an “alpha male” stems from observations in animal social structures, notably wolves, referring to the dominant male in a pack. In human circles, it’s often used to describe individuals, usually men, embodying traditional traits associated with leadership, confidence, assertiveness, and social dominance.
