The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) primary education committee will commence education for classes 10 and 12 soon. The corporation will start class 10 from the next academic year and class 12 in the coming years, reported Times of India.

Last year, the committee decided to begin classes for grade nine across four schools. However, with the academic year ending in 2024, the fate of these students will remain uncertain if they would like to continue studying in class 10. Hence, the civic body decided to start class 10 in four schools. As many as 225 students are currently studying in class 9 across the four schools run by VMC. Furthermore, four principals have been appointed to run these schools.

“In all the four schools where class 9 was offered, we will gradually scale up and eventually reach class 12. In addition to these, we plan to start class 9 in six other schools and then continue adding one class every year till we reach class 12,” Minesh Pandya chairman of the primary education committee told the publication.

Pandya added that the committee will hire more staff when required. “In the long run, our idea is to have at least one model school that provides education from nursery to class 12 with good infrastructure,” he added. VMC has also started six English medium schools which include two schools comprising of nursery to class 8, two running from class 6, and two running only nursery classes.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat state government has announced modifications in class 10 and 12 board exams starting from the academic session 2023–24. The changes have been made in the Gujarat Class 10, and 12 examination patterns keeping in mind the National Education Policy 2020. One of the key modifications announced by the Gujarat board included a hike of 10 per cent in objective questions from 20 to 30 per cent. The share of descriptive questions on the other hand has declined from 30 to 20 per cent.
