Virat Kohli and KL Rahul smashed their respective centuries, adding to Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill's fifties as India gave Pakistan a challenging total of 356/2

Virat Kohli scored his 47th ODI century, and KL Rahul scored his 6th ODI century as the pair helped India post a mammoth total of 356/2 against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill set the stage for the massive total with their 121-run opening stand on Sunday, September 10 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Rohit scored 56 runs, while Gill smashed 58 as the pair helped India to a blockbuster start having been invited to bat first by Babar Azam.

Rohit was dismissed by Shadab Khan, whereas Gill departed in the next over of Shaheen Afridi, however, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul started the rebuilding job then. India were 147/2 when the heavens opened up and rain forced the match into the reserve day.

Kohli and Rahul started from where the match had stopped a day prior, stitching together a massive 223-run partnership which helped India to a massive total in the history of ODI cricket against Pakistan.

Virat returned unbeaten at 122 in 94 balls with 9 boundaries and three maximums, including the last ball six of India’s inning. Rahul meanwhile scored 111 in 106 balls including 12 boundaries and two sixes.

Virat and Rohit’s partnership of 233, also pipped the previous highest partnership against Pakistan of 231 by the Indian team in ODI cricket.

Rahul last played for India on March 22, he perhaps wouldn’t even have been included in the playing XI against Pakistan if Shreyas Iyer hadn’t gotten back spasms on Sunday.

The wicketkeeper batter did find his place on his comeback and played a knock for the ages, in tandem with Kohli who surpassed the huge milestone of 13,000 runs in ODI cricket, becoming the fastest player to join the 13,000 ODI runs club.

It was records galore for the former Indian captain as he completed 1000 runs in the year 2023, and also became the fastest to complete 14,000 runs at 3.
