Chennai Super Kings bounced back in style last season when they won their fifth IPL title drawing level with their rivals Mumbai Indians for the record of most title wins in the league’s 16-year history.
At the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai, the franchise three Indians and three overseas players to their squad and spent a total of Rs 30.4 crore.

How They Spent Their Money: CSK added six players to their roster and splurged a whopping to sign New Zealand allrounder Daryl Mitchell. Their next most expensive buy was uncapped Sameer Rizvi who struck two centuries at the UPT20 League earlier this year. They added three allrounders, a specialist batter, a specialist bowler and a wicketkeeper-batter.

CSK’s 2023 triumph came after they finished ninth on the points table in 2022. And it was some comeback as they as qualified for the playoffs finishing second on the table and then beating Gujarat Titans twice – once in the first qualifier and then final – to lift the trophy in Ahmedabad.

Ambati Rayudu has retired while Ben Stokes is unavailable and hence both found their names among the list of eight players they released before the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai on December 19.
With Dhoni returning for another season, CSK will hope the squad they have at their disposal will deliver another trophy an if it’s indeed destined to be the last time the India great will be playing IPL, there won’ be a better send-off.
