CAT 2023: Although from an engineering background, Ishika wants to hone her business skills. She is aiming for IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, or Calcutta

The only female candidate to have scored 99.99 percentile in one of the toughest MBA entrance exams — Common Admission Test (CAT) 2023, Ishika Gupta from Delhi says she would like to see more women topping the competitive exam. “While I feel great, I would also like to see more female candidates scoring high in the exam,” she says.

Currently studying BTech in Mathematics and Computing from Netaji Subhas University of Technology Delhi, she will be appearing for her final year college exams in 2024. Although from an engineering background, Ishika wants to hone her business skills. “Being from an engineering background, I have technical skills and analytical skills. My degree is in mathematics and computing, I have studied both but now I realise I also need to learn about skills from a business perspective. It will help expand my skillset and further help grow my career,” Ishika told News18.com

Born and brought up in Delhi, Ishika completed her class 10 from Maxford School Dwarka, and class 12 from Delhi Public School, Dwarka. While her father is a software engineer, her mother is a teacher.

Talking about her preparation for CAT 2023, Ishika says starting to prepare early is the key. She started her preparations in October last year. “During my summer vacations in June/July last year, I decided to appear for CAT 2023 and then started my preparation in October. Some students start their preparations not until January but because I started preparing early, it was a benefit for me,” says she.

“I used to prepare consistently. I took all the mock tests. I had to go to college from Monday to Friday, so whenever college was over, after returning home from college, I used to devote some time to CAT preparation on a regular basis. Taking mock tests and analysing them is very important,” she said. Ishika also took coaching at T.I.M.E institute. While she says she was always good in quants, it was the VARC section that she had put extra focus on that section. Now, Ishika aiming for IIM A, B, C — IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, or Calcutta.
