BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Awarded Sports Business Leader of the Year Award 2023
BCCI announced the news of their Honorary Secretary Jay Shah being recognised for his leadership role in the world of cricket.

Following an eventful years that saw BCCI hosting the 2023 ODI World Cup besides launching the Women’s Premier League, Jay Shah, the board secretary, has been awarded with the Sports Business Leader of the Year Award 2023.

The BCCI shared the news on their official account on X (formerly Twitter), saying the honour is the first for anyone in the Indian Sports administration.

“CONGRATULATIONS to BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah on being awarded the Sports Business Leader of the Year Award at the @FollowCII Sports Business Awards 2023. A first for any leader in Indian Sports administration, this recognition is truly deserved!” the post read.

“His (Shah’s) leadership has left an indelible mark on Cricket worldwide— spearheading the ICC Men’s World Cup to new heights, championing inclusivity with significant strides in pay parity and the creation of the Women’s Premier League, steering the inclusion of Cricket at the Olympics, and many more groundbreaking initiatives that have changed the game forever!” it added.

Besides his role with the BCCI, Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council that conducted the Asia Cup in the build-up to the world cup.

Shah has served as the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) before joining BCCI.

He was elected as the BCCI secretary in 2019 and became ACC president earlier this year.

The recent ODI World Cup was the biggest in the tournament history, witnessing a record attendance of 1.25 million. It also broke the record for viewership numbers as over 518 million reportedly tuned up to watch the tournament that saw Australia winning a record-extending sixth title.
