Mumbai Police Receives 'Hoax' Call Claiming Arrival of 3 'Terrorists' With Pakistan Link in City
The call was received by the police's main control room at 12.05 pm on April 7

Mumbai Police on Saturday received a call claiming three ‘terrorists’ with Pakistan links have entered the Maharashtra’s capital city. The caller claimed that three ‘terrorists’ arrived in Mumbai via Dubai on Friday morning and were involved in illegal activities, officials said.

The caller identified himself as Raja Thonge and said he was speaking from Pune, officials said. He further revealed the identity of one ‘terrorist’ claiming his name was Mujeeb Sayyed and gave information about his mobile number and vehicle number to the police. Soon after receiving the information, police began investigation into the matter.

The call was received by the police’s main control room at 12.05 pm on April 7.

“Police increased vigil after receiving the call. Apart from teams of local police, the crime branch was also roped in for investigation,” the official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

As the probe started, the caller switched off his mobile phone after some time. The police managed to track down the phone number, which was found to be in the name of a man from Ashti in Beed district.

Police questioned the man who claimed the phone number from which the call was made didn’t belong to him and that he didn’t know about any terrorists. “Nothing suspicious was found after verification and the call was declared a hoax,” the official said.

A case was registered against unidentified persons for providing false information under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code (IPc) and a probe is underway to nab the caller.
