Anurag Kashyap Reveals He Had Medical Emergency After Fan Gifted Him Marijuana: 'I’m Allergic to It'
Anurag Kashyap revealed he is allergic marijuana and had a medical emergency after a fan gifted him some subtance at a film festival.

Anurag Kashyap revealed he was gifted marijuana by a fan during one of his trips to Canada and things went south pretty soon. He said that many people have the perception that he enjoys partaking in marijuana but in reality, he does not engage in the activity. He added that he is allergic to the substance and gets ‘serious’ asthma attacks even when he is seated beside someone who is smoking the substance. The Kennedy director revealed he needed medical help even when he was given a box filled with the substance.

Speaking with Flip the Script with Shubra podcast, Anurag revealed, “Because I’ve made Gangs of Wasseypur and Raman Raghav, people think I’m a psychopath. People are initially very scared of meeting me. And when they meet me, they get totally overwhelmed because I’m completely opposite of their perception. I can’t change that. A lot of people think that I smoke up. Often, when I get trolled, people call me ‘ganjedi’ and ‘nashedi’. But I just roll my cigarettes; they don’t even know I’m allergic to it. I get serious asthma attacks even if I smell somebody smoking pot around me.”

Recalling his visit to the Toronto International Film Festival, Anurag said, “I was in Toronto for the festival, and somebody came and said, ‘I’ve got a nice gift for you’. He had a wrapped bag, with flowers on it. And because I’m allergic to it, I can smell it from a distance. I said, ‘What’s in that bag’. He said, ‘Something you’d love’. I opened the bag, and he had rolled joints in it.”

“I said, ‘What’s wrong with you? Take it away from me, take the smell away’. I had to take an antihistamine immediately. It’s that bad for me. But it’s perception. I can’t change that,” he added.

Anurag made the headlines last month when he presented Kennedy at Mumbai’s MAMI Film Festival. The film received a standing ovation. The film is yet to set a release date. Anurag had also released Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat earlier this year, a romantic film which he directed. Besides helming projects, Anurag has also been facing the camera. He made an appearance in Kuttey, Haddi and Leo this year.
