At the D23 convention, Disney unveiled its exciting lineup of films and television series, including the much-awaited Toy Story 5, in a rousing showcase. As Woody and Buzz are ready to go on a whole new adventure, they will find a new challenge ahead, considering the current digital age. At the D23 event, director Andrew Stanton revealed that the sequel will focus on the beloved toys that have always been there for the kids. But now, they find their jobs being cut when they go head-to-head with electronics. “This time around, it’s toy meets tech. It’s going to be fun, and we can’t wait for you all to see it in the summer of 2026,” he teased onstage.

This comes months after Disney CEO Bob Iger first confirmed the sequel. In February 2023, Iger said that Toy Story 5 is in development along with other new installments in the Frozen and Zootopia franchises. As the next Toy Story installment is starting to take shape, Andrew Stanton, known for directing Finding Nemo, will write and co-direct it with McKenna Jean Harris. Dubbed one of the founding fathers of Pixar, Stanton has also served as the writer or co-writer on all Toy Story films.
Toy Story 5 will hit theatres in Summer 2026.
