Shatrughan Sinha opened up about supporting his daughter, actress Sonakshi Sinha over her decision to marry Zaheer Iqbal. Sonakshi and Zaheer got married in June. The couple hosted an intimate wedding ceremony followed by a fun wedding reception. While it was initially claimed that Shatrughan was not on board with the marriage, the actor-politician dismissed the rumours. He also turned her cheerleader at her wedding.
Now, in a new interview, Shatrughan asked if he doesn’t support his daughter and her life decisions, who will? “This is a matter of marriage… Secondly, if the kids got married, it is not illegal and unconstitutional. They did it with their own wishes and our blessings. So I appreciate it. Who will stand with my daughter if I don’t… My wife Poonam Sinha and I, got together to celebrate her wedding. This is about their happiness,” he told IANS.
He believes Sonakshi and Zaheer are a match made in heaven. “Parents will always stand for their children’s happiness and I feel that our children are happy. I call them made for each other, and we are very happy for them,” he said.
Sonakshi and Zaheer dated each other for 7 years before tying the knot each other on June 23, 2024. Sharing the photos from the wedding, Sonakshi said, “On this very day, seven years back (23.06.2017) in each others eyes, we saw love in its purest form and decided to hold on to it. Today that love has guided us through all the challenges and triumphs… leading up to this moment… where with the blessings of both our families and both our gods… we are now man and wife.
