Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval is one of the leading directors in the Malayalam film industry. Recently, serious allegations were made against him by costume designer Liji Preman. Ratheesh Balakrishnan’s latest film, Sureshanteyum Sumalathayudeyum Hridhayahariyaya Pranayakadha, is a heartwarming love story. Liji had worked in this film, but her name is nowhere in the credit line. On this ground, Liji Preman has approached the Ernakulam Munsiff Court.
Liji Preman said that the director behaved badly from the beginning to the end of the film. She also said that she was not given her fixed fee. The director himself approached her for this film. Previously, they have worked in films like Burrows. It was said that there would be 35 days of work and Rs 2.25 lakh was demanded as compensation as an advance. She worked for a total of 110 days for this film. Though there were problems in pre-production, the production team was asked to go ahead.
Liji said that the problems arised due to the director’s ego. She also shared that Ratheesh Balakrishnan treated her like a maid. The complaint states that he had to endure a lot of mental torture. So she backed out of the film. But even then, she had completed all the work required for the film. Three-quarters of the work was done.
When Liji came to know that their name was not in the film, she approached Fefka with a complaint. The reward was not paid in full. A compromise was negotiated, but nothing came of it. The discussion was held in the producers’ association. It was promised that the name would be mentioned, but that did not happen. There is no restriction for the producer in naming. It is said that the name was changed at the insistence of the director. Someone else’s name was named after the costume designer. Liji thus decided to take legal action.
