Ashutosh Rana Recalls GF Renuka Sahane Buying Him A Car So He Wouldn't Travel By Train | Throwback

Ashutosh Rana’s wife, actress Renuka Sahane, went above and beyond for love. She surprised him with a new car when he used to travel to film premieres in trains and taxis. Married since 2001, Ashutosh fondly remembered her romantic gesture, which he appreciated. Speaking to Mashable, Ashutosh shared his love for cars but admitted he kept it low-key even when he could afford more, wanting to stay grounded.

Ashutosh recalled attending the premiere of his film Dushman by taking a train and a taxi, as advised by his mentor who believed having no car wouldn’t diminish his stardom. Dushman, starring Kajol and Sanjay Dutt, is considered Ashutosh’s breakthrough film, with his performance as a murderer receiving acclaim. “Later, the film was nominated for Filmfare award, so I asked my guru if I should buy a car now because it was a big award night! He asked, ‘If you go by cycle, will they not give you an award?’ He said just be carefree, go the way you are. I didn’t say anything. A week before the event, he called me and asked, ‘What is the biggest car today?’ I told him Honda City. He said you can get this,” Ashutosh recalled.

It was while he was filming for Sangharsh that he found out that Renuka had already arrived with a new car. “She told me, ‘This is for you, my gift!’ and I was amazed! We were in a relationship back then she was my girlfriend. So, when she gifted me that, I bought a Lancer for her! We both gifted cars each other,” he recalled.

Ashutosh Rana and Renuka Shahane tied the knot in 2001 and are parents to two sons – Shouryaman and Satyendra. During a recent interview, Ashutosh reminisced about their love story, admitting that initially, he doubted their marriage would last more than two days after his father arranged their wedding.

In a chat with The Lallantap, Ashutosh looked back at the beginning of their romance. He revealed that he received Renuka Shahane’s number from director Ravi Rai, who also provided him with guidelines on how to reach out to her. Ashutosh was instructed to call Renuka after 9 PM and leave a message on her answering machine, but to his surprise, she picked up the phone when he called. “I called her at 10 p.m, that too on her mobile and we talked for another 1.5 hours. The next day I called her at 11 p.m and we talked again. We never met, but we became phone friends. Our friendship grew. We started talking three times a day.”
