Actor Anita Hassanandani has opened up about her past relationship with ex-boyfriend Eijaz Khan, saying she regrets changing herself to please him. She mentioned three red flags from their time together and also mentioned that her mother wasn’t supportive of the relationship because of Eijaz’s religious background. Anita has been married to Rohit Reddy since 2013.
In an interview with Hauterrfly, she looked back on her relationship with Eijaz, a popular television actor, who was last dating Pavitra Punia. She shared, “That was one of the first few long-ish relationships of my life, and I’d also gone against my mom because he was from another culture. He was Muslim, and I’m a Hindu. She didn’t outright forbid it, but she always had her concerns. We were good individually, but we weren’t good for each other. It didn’t work out, and that’s that.”
Anita shared that her breakup was tough and took her over a year to get over. She also hinted that Eijaz wanted to “change” her. She said, “Somebody is wanting to change you in order to be in love with you, it’s not love. But I didn’t realise it then, because I was in love, and I was willing to change for the person I loved. I wish I hadn’t changed all that much, and been myself. I would’ve been a different person… It took me over a year to move on. I literally moved into my best friend’s house because I was so low. Every morning, she would pep me up…”
When asked about red flags from her past relationship that she would watch for in the future, Anita said it’s important not to be with someone who tries to change you. She said, “Most importantly, do not be with somebody who is trying to change who you are. Keep checking their phones from time to time, because it’s important. If he’s hiding his phone, keeping it upside down, something is up boss. Third, taking you away from family and friends. You have to find a balance and prioritise correctly.”
