Murder Mubarak Review: Pankaj Tripathi Steals The Show in Sara, Vijay Varma's Predictable Thriller
Homi Adajania directed Murder Mubarak is based on Anuja Chauhan's novel Club You To Death. Is the film worth watching? Read our review here.

I remember how I used to love reading Agatha Christie’s murder mysteries when I was in college. Murder Mubarak on Netflix has reminded me of the same once again. Homi Adajania directed Murder Mubarak is based on Anuja Chauhan’s novel Club You To Death. The film stars a long list of actors – from Sara Ali Khan to Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Karisma Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia, Deven Bhojani, and Tisca Chopra.

The best part about the film is its cast. Adajania has intentionally chosen actors who are loved across genres and are fab at their jobs. Each character in the film is unique and layered and brings something new to the audience. They all are brilliant with their respective characters making this movie worth a watch.

Pankaj Tripathi plays the role of an ACP and has outdone himself. He brings simplicity to his character and adds a humorous twist every time he is on screen. Tripathi surpasses all other actors and steals the limelight in the movie.

Karisma Kapoor plays the role of an actress in the movie and puts up a graceful front. Dimple Kapadia and Tisca Chopra will leave you in splits with their characters. The two play the roles of rich women who are also a part of the ‘Royal Delhi Club’. They play their roles with ease and perfection. Deven Bhojani is hilarious but his character’s sarcasm is deep and makes you introspect. Aashim Gulati and Suhail Nayyar get very little screen time but their limited presence is well justified by the director. Watch the film to know how.

Talking about Vijay Varma and Sara Ali Khan, they put their best foot forward. Unfortunately for them, they get overshadowed by their supporting cast. For instance, Dimple Kapadia and Tisca Chopra are loud and funny, whereas Pankaj Tripathi is desi and smart. Vijay and Sara don’t offer out of the usual. However, their pairing is fresh to the eyes; they are a delight to watch together.

Special mention to the actress who plays the role of a caretaker for a paying guest. She gets hardly a few seconds of screen time but manages to showcase her outstanding acting skills at this time.

Murder Mubarak is a fun watch also because it uses comedy to raise the important issue of class structure in our society. Royal Delhi Club signifies the elite and privileged. When Deven reveals the rules of the club, it might make you laugh but if you think about it, it is sad and shocking.

It also mirrors the hollowness of our society. Nobody is what they pretend to be. Raja Sahib (Sanjay Kapoor) is bankrupt but in front of the Royal Delhi Club, he is rich and philanthropist. Karisma Kapoor is hiding her dark secrets from everyone. Tisca Chopra is always living in fear because of her son. Sara Ali Khan has her own story of her ‘missing’ husband.

Even though Murder Mubarak is intriguing, it slips away the murderer’s identity at the beginning. The predictability acts as a spoilsport. But, even if you guess the murderer, the film manages to keep the motive a suspense till the end. That’s the beauty of the film.

Overall, Murder Mubarak is a fun watch. Watch it for its brilliant cast and its over-the-top performances.
