Migraine is often considered as a normal headache, but it also causes the affected person to feel nausea and vomiting sensation. Apart from intense headache the migraine patients also become sensitive to light and sound. It can affect anyone, regardless of their age. Migraine could also be hereditary. However, there are a few simple ways to reduce the migraine pain at home.
Dr Dixa Bhavsar, an Ayurvedic expert from Surat, Gujarat, in a recent Instagram post suggested a few food items, which can help to control symptoms of migraine.
Listed below are the easily available food items from your kitchen that she recommended to use for reducing migraine pain:
Soaked Raisins
Dr Dixa Bhavsar advised to consume 10-15 raisins soaked overnight after drinking herbal tea. She claims that soaked raisins are excellent for soothing migraine headaches. On consuming it consistently for 12 days, it reduces the overall excess pitta in the body. It aggravates vata and eases the symptoms of migraine such as acidity, irritation, one-sided headache, and intolerance to heat among others.
Cumin-Cardamom Tea
While sharing its recipe, she recommended consuming it after one hour of eating lunch or dinner. Those suffering from migraine can also try this home remedy whenever their symptoms become prominent.
Recipe:
- Add a teaspoon of cumin seeds and one cardamom to a half glass of water.
- Boil it for 3 minutes, strain and sip.
Cow Ghee
Dr Dixa recommended people consume cow ghee as it works best for balancing excess pitta in the body and mind. She suggested different ways in which cow ghee can be used by migraine patients.
- ·With milk during bedtime
- During meals with roti, rice or for sautéing vegetables
- You can put two drops of ghee in your nostrils
- Ghee can also be used with some medicinal herbs like Brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Yastimadhu etc.
Dr Dixa also suggested all to follow healthy food habits and practice breathing exercises to get rid of migraine.
