New Delhi: Anupamaa Dayal called her collection an ode to the city she lives in, Delhi. She drew inspiration from a Mughal monument called JamaliKamali, named after a Sufi saint and his disciple.
Anupamaa's show at the ongoing AIFW was divided into two parts - the first being Jamali (It refers to Mughal inspired wedding ensembles), the second called Kamali (It is a fusion of Persian angrakha and other traditional costumes into modern casual wear which can be worn anywhere in the world).
We give you a lowdown on 4 things that helped Anupamaa Dayal's collection stand out:
Embroidery - The designer took inspiration form the Mughal embroidery technique to create great neck lines and borders for her Kutras and skirts. The golden threads and stars used gave the outfits a beautiful rich look.
Fabrics - The chiffons, light silks and dainty cottons created a visual delight as the models walked down the ramp with their dresses flowing behind them. Though the fabrics were thin, the designer used layers to make the look more interesting.
Colours - Anupamaa Dayal said that she was inspired by the colouring of sandstone as it weathers with time, changing into many shades. She interpreted those shades into her regular colour pallet of red, yellow, blue, pink and green among others.
Prints - Apart from embroidery the designer has also used printing. She takes inspirations again from the Mughal flowers, pietra dura, Islamic graphics and the fable roses which are seen in the carving at most monuments in and around Delhi.
