HYDERABAD: Senior scientist at the city-based Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Dr. Sundergopal Sridhar was conferred with the Young Scientist award instituted by National Academy of Science(India) and Elsevier Science Publishers.The chemical engineer at IICT was honoured for his contribution to the field of membrane technology.His research has benefitted fluorosis-affected villages of Andhra Pradesh through design and installation of several ground water defluoridation plants. The industry-based applications of Dr. Sundergopal’s research include pilot plants for solvent recovery, gas purification and effluent treatment. Dr. Sridhar has published 76 research papers so far and has also established a membrane laboratory at Karnatak University, Dharwad. The NASI-Scopus award which includes a citation, plaque and cash prize of `50,000 was awarded by Dr. T. Ramaswami, secretary at the Department of Science and Technology in New Delhi.
