BANGALORE: Residents of Yelachenahalli are facing multiple civic issues. Inadequate water supply, indiscriminate garbage dumping, missing foot paths in the main road and open drains are some of the ongoing miseries that the residents in this area are facing in their day-to-day life.Lack of sufficient water supply is a major problem for the residents here. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has installed Cauvery water supply facility but there is hardly any supply of water. However, residents pay the exorbitant bills for the unused water on a monthly basis. “We have filed online complaint thrice since September to the chairperson of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewage Board. No action has been taken on this issue. “The City Municipal Corporation water supply was stopped after Cauvery water pipes were connected to our houses,” said Gopalakrishna K Y, a resident. Confirming the knowledge of the persistent water supply problem, Corporator of Yelachenahalli O Manjunath said,“Though I have been complaining about the infrequent water supply, no action has been taken by the BWSSB.” Although residents had no complaints about the drainage system here, roads in some localities were recently dug up to undertake work on strengthening the drains. This has not gone well with the people since the roads were not asphalted within the given time frame. “As this is a newly-added ward to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), a lot more work has to be done. We have to lay the drain water pipes as well. It would take a minimum of two months to asphalt the roads,” said the Corporator. The residents also complain about garbage dump on the vacant sites, leading to spread of diseases. They allege that civic employees fail to regularly collect garbage from the houses. Sreekanth Kashyap, a resident, said, “We have one civic employee for the entire locality who does not collect the garbage on a regular basis. There are occassions when she fails to turn up for weeks. People here dump the garbage in vacant sites as an alternative without thinking of the ill-effects.” The main road in this area cries for immediate attention as there is no footpath for the residents to walk. They are forced to walk on the main road; a dangerous proposition as the main road is considered to be the National Highway 209 connecting to Kanakapura and Coimbatore and sees a heavy flow of vehicles.
