CHENNAI: A quo-warranto writ petition, questioning under what authority Iqbal Singh was holding the office of Lt Governor of Union Territory of Puducherry, was dismissed by the Madras HC on Monday. Holding that the writ petition from T Murugan of Puducherry was not maintainable, the first bench dismissed the petition. Levelling various allegations against Singh, Murugan sought Singh’s removal from the post. The bench, however, observed that the dismissal of the petition did not bar the right of any person to bring appropriate proceedings before the appropriate forum against the government of India or the Pondy Government or the other instrumentalities functioning under the Centre or the UT government.
