CHENNAI: A day after two youth from Bihar were arrested at Neelankarai for brandishing a gun at a cook, the police are now trying to ascertain whether the accused were planning a robbery.On Thursday, Pradhosh Pandey (20) and Sekar Anand (20), both students of a private university located on Old Mahabalipuram Road, were arrested from Vettuvankeni on ECR for allegedly assaulting and brandishing a gun at Ranjith Kumar, a cook, when the latter asked them the money they owed him. Police sources revealed that an investigation was under way based on suspicion that the students were planning a robbery, as they possessed a weapon.The police have already alerted the team in Bihar that is investigating the Velachery encounter case, to ascertain whether the two students were involved in any offences in Bihar and if they have links with any gangs involved in robberies there, sources claimed. Investigation is also on to find if the students were involved in any offences here, they added.“We are investigating whether they were involved in any offences in Bihar. We are also tracing two others, who had gone absconding,” a police official confirmed.The WeaponSources also said that the police were trying to establish the actual source of the gun seized from the duo and whether it was procured in Bihar or Tamil Nadu.The source of the money the students had with them had also come under police scrutiny, sources said, adding that the police were inquiring about their day to day activities, frequent visitors to the house and other roommates.
