India on Thursday reacted to the viral video of a group of Ladakh shepherds bravely standing up to Chinese soldiers who tried to stop them from grazing sheep near the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India has seen the video and both India and China have an ‘established mechanism’ to deal with such disputes.
“We have seen the video. The relevant agencies will be able to answer this Both countries are well aware of their respective traditional grazing zone. Any spat, controversy, or dispute is dealt with the established mechanism,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a briefing.
He also asked the media to seek other information on the case from the Ministry of Defence which is looking into the matter.
Councillor of Leh’s Chushul, Konchok Stanzin, on Tuesday, alleged that soldiers of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) engaged with Ladakhi nomads and stopped them from grazing in Indian territory.

Stanzin also shared a video purportedly showing Chinese soldiers in PLA armoured vehicles talking to nomads, who could be heard arguing in Tibetan that they have been grazing their livestock at that location for a long time.
According to defence sources, the video is of an incident that happened in the first Week of January wherein nomad graziers (with livestock) from the Indian side can be seen in conversation with PLA soldiers.
The ministry added that such incidents are common and happen on both sides whenever graziers stray across the LAC on account of differing perceptions of LAC. “Such incidents are dealt with appropriately as per established mechanism,” added sources.
