THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vilappil Janakeeya Samithi, which has been waging a war against the Vilappilsala waste treatment plant, has decided to resign from the monitoring committee which was set up to advise an alternative to the garbage issue. In a statement here, the leaders of the Janakeeya Samithi said that their demand to the state government to withdraw the government order detailing the decisions taken at the crucial meeting held on September 12 and 20 has not been agreed so far. The leaders say that though the major decision taken at the meeting was to shut down the plant and a period of three months was agreed upon for the Corporation to shift into a decentralised waste management system, this has not been put down in the order. The government order dated October 14 is silent about the closure of the plant and the first two clauses are such that it hints at the possible reversal of the decision, the leaders said. Following this, they had submitted a complaint to the CM and Urban Affairs Minister, in which no action has been taken so far. It is in protest of this that the Samithi has decided to withdraw from the monitoring committee, leaders said in the statement.
