SALEM : Former deputy chief minister M K Stalin on Friday insisted that the AIADMK government’s “vendetta politics” would work to the advantage of the DMK in the local body elections. After his arrival at the Salem railway junction at 11.30 am to take part in a meeting, part of a series — ‘Plight of Democracy’ — that the DMK has been organising across the State to politically counter land grab charges its functionaries are muddled in, the party treasurer said he anticipated more DMK leaders to be soon taken into custody. After accepting courtesies from partymen, Stalin drove to the Central Jail to call on Tiruchy deputy mayor Anbazagan and Tiruchengode municipality chairman Natesan, who are in prison for various land grab cases.Addressing the media after the jail visit, Stalin said he foresaw visiting all State prisons soon, as more and more number of his partymen are likely to be arrested in the days to come. “Jayalalithaa has given me this task and I am prepared to go the extra mile. So is the party, ready to face legally the false cases foisted against its leaders,” he added. He went on to say that former ministers, district secretaries, MLAs and MPs were being slapped with fabricated land grab cases with the aim of defeating the DMK in the local body elections. He argued that though many land grab complaints were filed with sufficient proof against AIADMK and DMDK men, the police had looked away. “But when it comes to DMK functionaries, the arrests are made first and cases are cooked up later on. This will work in our favour in the local body elections,” Stalin insisted.
