Uttara Kannada Powerlifter Wins Silver For India At Asian Powerlifting Championship
For 18 years, Rajesh Madiwala has served as a firefighter, and for 12 years, he has been diligently exercising for four to five hours each day at the Kumta Municipal Gym.

An athlete from the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka has brought laurels to the state as well as the country by winning a silver medal for India in powerlifting at the Asian Powerlifting Championship. Rajesh Madiwala of Kumta of Uttara Kannada District has achieved this significant victory. Rajesh lifted 660 kgs and triumphed in the squat, bench press, deadlift and total weight lifted categories.

It is interesting to note that 41-year-old Rajesh Madiwala has been in training as a powerlifter for just a year. However, he did have above above-average level of strength and fitness as he had been working out for the last 12 years. For the last 18 years, Rajesh has served as a firefighter, and for the past 12 years, he has been diligently exercising for four to five hours each day at the Kumta Municipal Gym after finishing his work and before starting his shift. His dedication towards his craft was visible from his early days when he managed to include his workout regimen alongside his hectic schedule.

After having worked out for more than a decade, Rajesh was advised to take part in powerlifting championships because of his strength and physique. He decided to start training for powerlifting last year and did so under the tutelage of powerlifting champion Vikram Prabhu. Previously, Rajesh had demonstrated his prowess by securing victories in various state and national-level competitions. However, his most notable achievement came during the Powerlifting Championship held in Hong Kong from May 5 to May 11.

In this prestigious event, Rajesh showcased his exceptional strength and determination by lifting an impressive weight of 660 kg. This remarkable feat earned him the well-deserved silver medal. Rajesh’s dedication to his training regimen and his unwavering commitment to excellence have propelled him to success on both national and international stages.
