New Delhi: A 23-year-old teacher may lose her eyesight partially after suffering an acid attack in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh a few days back. Doctors at Delhi's Gangaram Hospital, where the teacher has been brought for treatment, now say that the almost 50 per cent of the woman's vision is expected to be restored, as her cornea has suffered major damage in the acid attack.

She has undergone one surgery, and will undergo another graft on Saturday. The doctors say that the extent to which she will recover her sight will be known only in a week. In the first surgery the membrane of the placenta of a new born was transplanted over her eye. Doctors treating her say her condition is stable as of now.

The woman was returning from work with her three sisters when they were attacked with acid by two unidentified men on a motorcycle at around 5 pm on Tuesday evening. The men allegedly used a water gun for carrying out the acid attack.

The four sisters were attacked while they were returning home after completing invigilation work at Hindu Inter College for the intermediate examination in Shamli district's Kandhla town.

As soon as they reached near Kandhla canal, two men on a motorcycle approached the sisters. Both the men, who had covered their faces with helmets, were carrying water guns which they used to throw acid on the girls. The duo fled after the acid attack.

While police officials reached the attack spot soon after getting the information, they failed to apprehend the attackers. The attackers are yet to be arrested even three days after the heinous attack.
