BANGALORE: Probably one of the better maintained lakes in the city, Sankey Tank serves as a perfect place to unwind for many in the city. The man made lake has a swimming pool, a park that is equipped with a kids play area and a jogger’s park that is approximately one kilometre in length.“All the BBMP lakes are well maintained. However, the local residence association here is very strong and very motivated. They urge us to maintain the tank better. Another reason why this particular tank is so clean is unlike Ulsoor lake, this tank does not have any sewage in-flow,” said a BBMP chief engineer.The residence association has also built artificial bird nests to attract birds to the lake,” said a superintendent of Horticulture, on the condition of anonymity. “There is a break of approximately 280 metres in the jogger’s park. The work is in progress and it will be done soon,” said a technical engineer from BBMP who is in charge of the lake. The entire path is well lit. He also mentioned that the there is a separate idol immersion tank that is filled with water during the festivities. “The idol is collected from the public and then immersed. No fees or charges are collected from the public for this,” he added. “I like coming to Sankey Tank for my morning walks. The park is well maintained and also has a number of benches for visitors to sit. It also has a few gazebo for visitors to sit on. The children’s play area has a number of swings and slides,” said Gaurav Sharma a resident of Sadashivnagar.Spread across 37.1 acres the lake is divided into many sections — park, swimming pool and the water body. While the periphery of the water body is 1.7 kilometres, its maximum depth is approximately 7.01 metres. “The park is built over an area of approximately 40,000 square metres,” said an official from the Horticulture Department of BBMP. The lake also has two separate water stations and separate washrooms for men and women.During the evenings there is a musical fountain show that attracts many visitors.
