THODUPUZHA: The NSS has grown stronger weathering tough times in the past when attempts were made to divide the organisation by divisive forces, NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair said on Sunday. The charge that he was manipulating things to occupy the top post in the organisation proved wrong as Narayana Panicker continued to lead it until he became sick, he said, and added that he became the general secretary through proper manner only after Panicker fell sick.Earlier, he unveiled the statue of Mannath Padmanabhan near the NSS office here.He said the NSS had succeeded in its mission in convincing the government to constitute a commission for the forward castes, cherishing the dream of Mannath Padmanabhan. He flayed the forces which tried to scuttle the move by claiming that the reservation to the poor among the forward communities would affect social justice. He said that NSS wanted the government to provide 17 per cent reservation to the poor among the forward community after giving 33 per cent reservation to other sections.Speaking about the political situation in the state, he said the UDF government with its wafer-thin majority has become more responsible and transparent unlike in the past. This will force the government to deliver social justice, he said. The NSS had no politics but it is of the view that the UDF should continue in power for the remaining term with the LDF as a strong Opposition. This will do good to the state, he said.
