THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Assembly on Monday suspended two Opposition MLAs, James Mathew and T V Rajesh, for disrespect to the House and violation of discipline.Chief Minister Oommen Chandy who is also the Leader of the House presented a resolution proposing to suspend them till the end of the business on Tuesday and the House passed the same with voice vote. The decision to suspend the MLAs was taken following the loud protest by James Mathew and T V Rajesh to the Speaker’s ruling that they had expressed regret on their provocative acts on October 14 during their meeting with the Speaker in his chamber.Neglecting the plea for maintaining order and keeping discipline, the two MLAs protested against Speaker G Karthikeyan’s claim. The Speaker reminded them that it was just seconds before that he had told the Assembly that shouting against the Speaker was disrespect to the chair and breach of code of conduct. Following this, the Chief Minister stood up and the Speaker asked him whether he had any statement to make.The Chief Minister read out the resolution proposing to suspend the two MLAs for two days and the same was approved by the House.Opposition Leader V S Achuthanadnan stood up and said the Opposition was going to sit on satyagraha in the House till the end of business on Tuesday. The Speaker immediately announced ending the day’s business and adjourned the House for the day.
