CHENNAI: Dr Rabindranath, a physician from the Ambattur area, passed away on Sunday after suffering from a rare kind of illness called interstitial lung disease. The doctor ran a multi-speciality hospital and had a career spanning over five decades. Noted for his charitable free service to the poor, he was a social activist, the governor of Lions Club and was also the first to organise a blood bank in the State that was presided over by Mother Teresa. Being an active person in several eye and blood donation camps in the city, he presided over several committees and welfare societies in the vicinity of Ambattur. His last rites are scheduled to be held on Monday. The 79-year-old doctor is survived by his wife and two sons.
