Tighten Rajasthan-Pak border security: Chidambaram
Intelligence inputs suggest plans of LeT infiltration through the border.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday took stock of the situation at the border areas in Punjab and Rajasthan and found that security arrangements like flood lights and fencing were in a dilapidated condition, official sources said.

Intelligence inputs suggest that the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) is planning to sneak its trained cadres through the fenced border in Rajasthan and Punjab.

The Home Minister, who visited Ferozepur in Punjab and Bikaner in Rajasthan along with senior officials of the ministry, found that the condition of fencing at the Indo-Pak border was very poor and needed immediate replacement, the sources said.

Chidambaram found that the fencing had developed rust owing to rains and moist conditions, they said.

Accompanied by BSF Chief M L Kumawat and Secretary (Border Management) Vinay Kumar, the Home Minister visited three border outposts K K Barrier and Hussainiwala both in Ferozepur sector (Punjab),and Satpal in Rajasthan.

The troops posted here informed Chidambaram about the poor condition of flood lighting. They also told him of their problems in connectivity and socialising.

The Home Minister also met the farming community at the forward areas whose land was located outside of the fence at the international border.

Later, Chidambaram addressed the BSF jawans and visited Martyr's Memorial in Hussainiwala, the sources adeed.
