Blood donation is a virtuous act. While many have several misconceptions about this noble act, a 25-year-old youth has set an example by donating blood the same number of times as his age brushing aside all misconceptions.
Although blood banks are present in almost every district, Ankit Dwivedi often comes to one’s mind when in difficult situations.
Ankit hails from Mau Khapatiya village of Chitrakoot district. Speaking to Local 18, he shared his experience that when he donated blood for the first time. People for his village were opposing the blood donation drive. Moreover, his family also shunned the idea of blood from one’s body being given to someone else.
There were several misconceptions about blood donation in his village. It was thought that blood donation brings bad luck to one’s family. In the meantime, a person from his village donated blood to a member in his family. A panchayat meeting was held in his village to condemn this act.
Ankit came to Prayagraj for his higher education. During his stay at Sir Sundarlal Hostel of Allahabad University, some senior students inspired him to donate blood. Many of his seniors have donated blood around 40 times.
Ankit shared that after donating blood for the first time, he broke out of the shackles of all kinds of superstition and misconceptions attached to it. Currently, whenever he comes to know about someone in need of blood, he gets in contacts immediately and donates blood. He has donated blood more than 25 times till now.
Ankit shared that people donate money, clothes and other items, when it comes to donating blood they shy away. “That is why I am always helping people. I consider blood donation as a service. I will continue to do so in future as well,” he said.
The 25-year-old said told that after donating blood, he did not face any problem in his body. He takes a proper diet and so he is healthy. Recently, Ankit donated blood to a woman in Prayagraj. He said that she needed blood urgently and was not getting any donor.
