Third time lucky, Visalakshi in Tirupur

TIRUPUR: She was on the verge of landing in an AIADMK ticket twice from the Tirupur constituency for the Assembly elections. But on Friday Visalakshi got lucky and was selected as the party’s mayoral candidate for the Tirupur Corporation in the upcoming local body elections. Officials sources said 31 partymen filed their nominations at the AIADMK district head office here expressing their interest to contest for the mayor’s post. Visalakshi (39) joined in AIADMK in 1982. In 1993, she became the deputy president of AIADMK’s Tirupur district women’s wing. In 1998 she was elected as the state general committee member of women’s wing. And in 2009, she was  became the state deputy Scretary of the women’s wing. In 2001 and 2011 Assembly elections, she was selected as party candidate for Tirupur. But she lost her chance to contest due to last minute shuffle.
