Sri Govardhana Kshetra temple is one of the prominent districts in Tamil Nadu. According to Local 18 Tamil Nadu, Sri Govardhana Kshetra temple is located in the Koderi area on the National Highway from Coonoor to Manjoor in Nilgiris district. The highlight of the Sri Govardhana Kshetra temple is that it is located under a huge rock. There is also a tiny hole at the bottom of it and it is said that this hole always produces delicious water. Motorists travelling from Manjoor to Mettupalayam Municipality visit this temple to worship the deity, i.e.- Lord Krishna. This temple and the Lord’s idol placed in it are said to be the guardians of the devotees and blessed with many powers as well. The idol’s statue placed in this temple is shaped like Lord Krishna holding Govardhan Hill with his little finger on his left hand. This avatar of Lord Krishna is worshipped as Govardhana Varadhar because this idol was created during the darshan of Kanchipuram Athivaradhar. Athivaradhar is a nine-feet long idol, made out of the divine fig tree, which appears once in 40 years.
Sri Govardhana Kshetra temple was a small temple till 2019 at a place called Kadaparai. Now, the temple was erected and reconstructed. A large number of devotees worship here on special days and festivals. It is said that Kadaparai has evolved. The Chariot Festival is held in Karamadai and also in the Sri Govardhana Kshetra temple. Many devotees also carry water in a place located here. A citizen named Manokaran from Koderi village said that this temple is the pride of his village.
This temple is created out of artificial rock and looks much like an ancient cave temple. There is an imposing entrance at the temple looking like a tunnel has been chopped out of the rock. When you feel confused about the temple’s interior, the narrow path leads you to the inner sanctum. This is where the visitors will find the deity – Lord Krishna holding up the Govardhana hill on a finger. There are intricate carvings portraying scenes from the Hindu epic Mahabharata as well.
